Calculate your love score

Updates as you type

First names work best. Letters only count; spaces, accents and emoji are ignored.

Type two names to see your love percentage and your FLAMES result. It updates as you type.

Quick answer

A love calculator turns two names into a love percentage. Ours is honest about it: the score comes from a simple formula on the letters in your names, so the same two names always give the same result, in either order. It also plays FLAMES, the classic playground name game. Neither says anything real about your relationship, so treat the result as a laugh and use the date idea underneath as the real prize.

How this love calculator works

Most love calculators online do not explain where their number comes from. We would rather tell you. When you type two names, the tool keeps only the letters, puts the two names in alphabetical order and runs them through a hash, a formula that turns text into a number. That number is mapped to a score between 50 and 100.

Sorting the names first means “Maya and Leo” and “Leo and Maya” give exactly the same score. Capital letters, spaces and accents are ignored, so “Zoë” and “zoe” match too. The only way to change the score is to change the names, which is why people love trying nicknames.

We start the scale at 50 on purpose. A love calculator is a game people play with someone they like, and nobody needs a 3% to ruin their afternoon.

  1. Type your name in the first box.
  2. Type their name in the second. The result updates as you type.
  3. Read your score, your verdict and your FLAMES result.
  4. Try the idea under the result. That part is not random at all: it is a real thing to do together.

What FLAMES means and how it is counted

FLAMES is a name game that has been played in school notebooks for decades, especially in India, the Philippines and the UK. Each letter stands for a result: Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies and Siblings.

The tool plays it the traditional way. First, cross out letters the two names share, one for one. Count the letters left over. Then count around the word FLAMES by that number, strike out the letter you land on and carry on counting from the next letter until only one is left.

Example

A worked FLAMES example: Ajay and Priya

  • Shared letters: one A and the Y cross out from each name
  • Left over: A, J (from Ajay) and P, R, I (from Priya) = 5 letters
  • Count 5 round F-L-A-M-E-S, strike the letter you land on, and repeat
  • The last letter standing is your result

Results like Enemies and Siblings are part of the joke. In the playground they were always followed by a dramatic recount.

Fun, not fact: what a love score can and cannot tell you

No calculator can measure love, and no name formula knows how you treat each other on a hard day. Real compatibility shows up in things like how you talk through disagreements, how you share time and whether you both feel heard. A number from two names cannot see any of that.

So why play? Because it is a tiny, harmless excuse to say someone's name next to yours, and it makes people laugh. Couples use it as an icebreaker, friends use it to tease each other, and long-distance partners send screenshots across time zones. That is exactly what it is for.

  • Got a low score? Try their nickname, or yours. The machine is very easily charmed.
  • Got 100%? Screenshot it immediately. It will be brought up at every family dinner.
  • Want something more meaningful? The love language quiz shows how each of you likes to feel loved, which is far more useful than a percentage.

Turn the result into something real

Every result ends with a small idea to try together, like swapping three-line love notes, making a shared playlist or cooking the same recipe at the same time. Those little rituals do more for a relationship than any score.

If you are apart, the ideas in our guide to daily rituals for long-distance couples work beautifully alongside it. And if you want a name that is yours together, the couple name generator blends your names into a ship name.

Swap love notes

Write three lines each about why you like the other person, then read them out or send them at the same time.

Make a shared playlist

Five songs each, with one line on why you picked them.

Play a real quiz

The couples quiz has your partner guess your answers for a score that actually reflects how well they know you.

Q & A

Frequently asked questions

Is the love calculator accurate?

No love calculator is accurate, and ours does not pretend to be. The score is a formula on the letters in your names, made for fun. It says nothing about a real relationship.

Why do the same names always get the same score?

Because the score comes from the names themselves, not from a random number. That way a screenshot is always reproducible, and swapping the order of the names changes nothing.

What does FLAMES stand for?

Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies and Siblings. It is a classic school name game; cross out shared letters, count what is left and count round the word FLAMES.

Does the love calculator work with nicknames?

Yes. It uses any letters you type, so nicknames, middle names and full names all work and will give different scores.

Can I calculate love by date of birth?

This tool uses names only. For something fun with dates, try the moon on our day tool, which shows the moon phase on the night you met.

Is this love calculator free?

Yes. It is free in your browser with no sign-up, and it works on any phone or computer.

Does Lovelle save what I type?

No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to or stored on Lovelle's servers. When you share, your choices travel inside the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to websites. That part is not encrypted, so anyone with the link can read it. Share it only with the person it is meant for.
