Couple name generator

Find your couple name

Updates as you type

First names or nicknames work best. Letters only; numbers and emoji are ignored.

Type two names to see your ship names, couple nicknames and hashtags.

Quick answer

To find your couple name, type both first names. The generator blends them every sensible way, ranks the ones that sound most like a real name, and shows the best as your ship name, with more options to tap through. Ben and Jennifer gives Bennifer, Liam and Emma gives Liamma, and Noah and Olivia gives Noavia. You also get hashtag ideas and simple pairings like “Maya & Dev”. It is free, needs no sign-up and works instantly.

How the couple name generator works

Behind the scenes, the generator tries every way of joining the start of one name to the end of the other. Blends that overlap on a shared letter (like the “n” in Ben and Jennifer) score highest, because they sound the most natural. Blends that are too short, too long or hard to say drop down the list.

  1. Type the first name of each person. Nicknames work too.
  2. Your best ship name appears straight away, with more options underneath. Tap any of them to make it the featured name.
  3. Press the swap button to put the other name first; some pairs only click one way round.
  4. Copy a name, a hashtag or a pairing like “Sam ♥ Alex” with one tap, or share your couple name as an image.

Couple name examples

These are real results from the generator. The top pick is not always the one you will love, so read the whole list out loud.

Notice how some pairs work better with the second name first: Aisha and Omar's top pick, Omasha, starts with Omar. That is why the generator always tries both orders.

How to make a ship name yourself

The word “ship” comes from “relationship”, and fans have been blending couple names for decades. If you want to craft one by hand, these are the patterns that work best.

Overlap on a shared letter

Look for a letter or sound both names share and join them there: Ben + Jennifer meet at the “n” to make Bennifer. These sound the most natural.

Start of one, end of the other

Take the first syllable of one name and the last of the other: Noah + Olivia becomes Novia. Aim for two or three syllables.

Keep one name almost whole

If one name is short, keep it and add the ending of the other: Sam + Alex becomes Salex. This works well when one name has one syllable.

Say it out loud

If it is hard to say or spells an awkward word, move on. The best ship names sound like a name someone could actually have.

Where to use your couple name

A couple name is a small, silly thing that becomes a big part of your shared language. Here are the places couples use theirs most.

Wedding hashtag

Guests tag photos with #Bennifer or #HappilyEverBennifer, so every picture ends up in one place. The generator suggests five hashtag styles.

Shared playlists and albums

Name your road-trip playlist or shared photo album after your ship name.

Group chat name

Rename your two-person chat, or the friends' chat when you plan a trip together.

Matching gifts

Mugs, keyrings, a cake topper or a doodle signed with your couple name.

Anniversary posts

A ship name makes a neat caption for milestone photos. Find your next date with the anniversary calculator.

Inside jokes

Plenty of couples simply call themselves by their ship name: “Team Salex is staying in tonight.”

Q & A

Frequently asked questions

What is a couple name?

A couple name, or ship name, is a blend of two people's names, like Bennifer for Ben and Jennifer. “Ship” is short for relationship.

How does the couple name generator work?

It joins the start of one name to the end of the other in every sensible way, then ranks the blends by how natural they sound. Overlaps on a shared letter score highest.

Is the ship name generator free?

Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, and the names appear as you type.

What if I do not like the first couple name?

Tap any name in the list to feature it, or swap the order of the names to get a different set of blends.

Can I use it for a wedding hashtag?

Yes. Pick your favourite ship name and the generator suggests hashtags like #TeamSalex and #SalexForever. Search for your hashtag on social media first to check nobody else is using it.

Does it work with names from any language?

It works with names written in the Latin alphabet, including accented letters. Names in other scripts may not blend well yet.

Does Lovelle save what I type?

No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to or stored on Lovelle's servers. When you share, your choices travel inside the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to websites. That part is not encrypted, so anyone with the link can read it. Share it only with the person it is meant for.
