A countdown is most useful as a planning prompt. A rough timeline that works well for couples apart:
- Six to eight weeks before: agree whether you will be together, and if not, when you will both be free for a long call.
- Four weeks before: order anything that needs posting, especially across borders.
- One week before: plan the small details, such as the same meal or a playlist for the evening.
- On the day: send something they will wake up to, even if the main plan is later.
Monthly anniversaries and monthsaries
A monthly anniversary (often called a monthsary) falls on the same day of each month as your start date. The calculator shows the next one and how many months it marks.
If you started on the 29th, 30th or 31st, months without that day use their last day instead: a couple who started on 31 January celebrate on 28 or 29 February. Many couples celebrate monthly in the first year and switch to yearly after that; others keep the habit going with a small message each month.
What if our anniversary is on 29 February?
A 29 February date only comes round in leap years. In other years this calculator observes the anniversary on 28 February so it stays in the same month. Some couples prefer 1 March, and that is just as valid. Choose whichever feels right to you both, and make the real 29 February something extra special when it arrives.
