Spin the wheel and do whatever it lands on. No vetoes (well, maybe one).

Quick answer

To use the date night wheel, pick a set of ideas (at home, going out, long distance or free) and press “Spin the wheel”. The wheel lands on one date idea for tonight, chosen at random. You can also type your own ideas, from two up to sixteen, and share the wheel as a link so your partner spins the same one. It is free and needs no sign-up.

How the date night wheel works

Every spin is genuinely random, and the wheel always lands squarely inside a slice, so there is no arguing over a pointer on the line. If you use reduced-motion settings, the result appears without the long spin.

  1. Choose a ready-made set: at-home dates, going-out dates, long-distance dates or free dates. Each has twelve ideas.
  2. Or press “Edit the ideas on this wheel” and type your own, one per line. You need at least two and can add up to sixteen.
  3. Press “Spin the wheel”. It turns for a few seconds and the pointer lands on tonight's date.
  4. Turn on “Remove each idea after it is picked” if you want to work through the whole wheel over a few weeks without repeats.
  5. Share the wheel link so your partner can spin your exact wheel, or share the winning idea as an image.

Why a date spinner helps

The hardest part of date night is often deciding. After a long day, “What do you want to do?” and “I don't mind, you choose” can go round in circles for half an hour. Handing the decision to a wheel ends the loop and adds a little suspense.

It also gets you out of a rut. Most couples repeat the same three dates. A wheel full of ideas you agreed on together quietly pushes you to try the cooking challenge or the sunrise walk you keep talking about.

  • Build the wheel together, so every slice is something you would both enjoy.
  • Agree the rule before you spin: the wheel's choice is final, or one re-spin each.
  • Keep a free wheel for the end of the month when money is tight.

Date night wheel ideas for every situation

How to make your own date wheel

A custom wheel is the best kind, because it only holds dates you actually want. Press “Edit the ideas on this wheel” and write one idea per line. Short ideas fit best on the slices (up to 40 characters each), so write “Sushi night” rather than a full plan.

Six to ten slices works best on a phone. With sixteen the wheel still works, but each slice gets thin. Once you are happy, share the wheel link: the ideas travel inside the link itself, so your partner gets exactly the same wheel without either of you creating an account.

A date night wheel for long-distance couples

Choose the long-distance preset and every slice is something you can do apart: cook the same meal, watch a film in sync, play an online game, draw together or plan your next visit. Send the wheel link, decide who spins, then start the call.

If your evenings rarely line up, first find the hours you are both free with the time-zone overlap tool, then spin. For even more ideas, our list of long-distance relationship activities has dozens more slices to borrow, and the drawing ideas for couples make a great creative date.

  • Take turns to spin each week so it feels fair.
  • Keep a slice for “plan our next visit”. It always lands well.
  • Turn on “Remove each idea after it is picked” to work through the whole wheel before your next reunion.

Q & A

Frequently asked questions

What is a date night wheel?

It is a spinning wheel of date ideas. You spin it and it picks tonight's date at random, which ends the “what should we do” debate.

Can I add my own date ideas to the wheel?

Yes. Press “Edit the ideas on this wheel” and type one idea per line. You can have between two and sixteen slices.

Is the date spinner really random?

Yes. Each spin picks a slice at random in your browser, and every slice has the same chance of winning.

Can my partner spin the same wheel?

Yes. Press “Copy wheel link” and send it. Your ideas are saved inside the link, so they open the same wheel.

Does the date night wheel work for long-distance couples?

Yes. The long-distance preset is full of dates you can do apart, like cooking the same meal or watching a film in sync.

How do we stop the same idea coming up again?

Turn on “Remove each idea after it is picked”. Each winning idea leaves the wheel, so you work through all of them without repeats.

Does Lovelle save what I type?

No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to or stored on Lovelle's servers. When you share, your choices travel inside the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to websites. That part is not encrypted, so anyone with the link can read it. Share it only with the person it is meant for.
