Quick answer
To play would you rather as a couple, pick a deck (funny, romantic, deep, long distance, impossible or flirty), choose “Do we match?” or “Guess my answer” and press start. Each card is a dilemma with two options. One of you picks in secret, passes the phone, the other picks, then you reveal together and talk about the follow-up question on the card. A round is 10 cards from 90, all PG-13, and you get a match score or a points total at the end. It is free and needs no sign-up.

How to play would you rather for couples
Don't like a card? Press “Skip this card” and a fresh one from the same deck takes its place. Changing the deck or the mode starts a new round.
- Choose a deck. Funny is the easiest warm-up; Deep and Impossible are for a slow evening; Long distance is written for couples who live apart.
- Choose how to play. “Do we match?” has you both answer every card. “Guess my answer” has one of you answer and the other predict, swapping each card.
- Add your names if you like, then press “Start playing”.
- The first player taps an option in secret. The screen hides it and asks you to hand the phone over.
- The second player taps their option (or their guess). Both picks are revealed, with a question to talk about before the next card.
- After 10 cards you see your match percentage or the points, plus a recap of every card. Save it as an image or play another round.
The six decks, with a real card from each
Every deck has 15 cards and each round deals 10 of them at random, so the same deck plays differently the next time. People searching for would you rather questions for couples tend to want them funny, flirty, deep or romantic, so those are the decks, plus two of our own.

| Deck | Best for | Example card |
|---|---|---|
| Funny | A first round, or a group of friends | Swap voices with me for a day or swap wardrobes for a week? |
| Romantic | Date night and anniversaries | Relive our first date exactly as it was, or redo it knowing what you know now? |
| Deep | Values, plans and the future | Live near your family or near mine? |
| Long distance | Couples in different cities | Visit for a long weekend every month, or for three weeks twice a year? |
| Impossible | Friendly debates with no right answer | Never argue again but never laugh as hard, or keep both? |
| Flirty | A cheeky round that stays PG-13 | Be the big spoon or the little spoon? |
Do we match, or guess my answer?
Do we match?
Both of you answer every card for yourselves. The reveal shows whose pick was whose, and the end screen tells you how many cards you agreed on. It is the gentler mode: there is no winner, just a picture of where you are alike and where you are not.
Guess my answer
One of you answers for real while the other guesses what they picked. You swap roles every card, so each of you answers five and guesses five. A right guess scores a point for the guesser. It is a sneaky way to find out how well you know each other, and the misses are often more fun than the hits.
If you like the guessing mode, the couples quiz takes the idea further: one of you writes the answers, the other tries to match them from a link.
Why every card has a follow-up question
A would you rather answer on its own is a coin toss. The reason behind it is the good part. That is why each card ends with a short question to talk about after the reveal, such as “What would you change, and what would you keep?” after the first-date card, or “What would make either choice work for both of us?” after the family one.
You do not have to answer every follow-up. Pick the ones that make you curious, and skip the ones that do not suit the night. A useful rule: if you split on a card, the person who picked the less popular option gets 30 seconds to make their case, with no interrupting.
- Ask “what would change your mind?” rather than “why would you pick that?”. It sounds curious rather than critical.
- Notice surprises. If your partner picked something you did not expect, ask about it.
- Leave Deep and Impossible for a time when you are both relaxed. They can open real conversations about money, family and where you will live.
- Keep it kind. The point is to learn about each other, not to win the argument.
Playing would you rather over text or a call
If you live apart, there are two easy ways to play. On a call, one of you opens the game, reads each card out loud, and you both say your answer on the count of three. Over text, press “Copy this card for a chat” and paste it into your conversation: the question and its follow-up arrive together, ready for your partner to answer.
The Long distance deck is written for exactly this. It asks about visits, calls, care packages and closing the distance, so the answers often turn into plans. For more ways to spend time together across the miles, see our list of long-distance relationship activities and the random question generator for nights when you want to talk rather than choose.
Would you rather, this or that and the question generator
These three games are cousins, and each suits a different mood. This or that is quick either-or picks (sunrise or sunset, texts or calls) answered in a list, with a link your partner fills in later. Would you rather is slower: each card is a full dilemma, both of you answer it at the same moment, and there is a question to talk about after every reveal.
The random question generator is for open conversation, one question at a time with no options to choose from. A good evening might start with this or that, move to would you rather, and end with a few deep questions.
Is it suitable for every couple?
Every card is written to be PG-13 at most. The Flirty deck is about kisses, cuddles, pet names and compliments; nothing is explicit, so you can play it at a family gathering without blushing too much. None of the cards ask you to compare your partner with anyone else or to share anything you would not want to.
Names and answers stay on your screen and are never saved. If you want a more playful game with dares, try truth or dare, which also has four PG-13 decks.
Q & A
Frequently asked questions
How do you play would you rather as a couple?
Take turns reading a dilemma with two options. Both of you choose, reveal your answers together and explain your choice. With this tool, one of you picks in secret, passes the phone, the other picks, and the reveal comes with a question to talk about.
How many would you rather questions are there?
There are 90 cards in six decks of 15: funny, romantic, deep, long distance, impossible and flirty. Each round deals 10 at random, and you can skip any card.
Are the questions clean?
Yes. Every card is PG-13 at most. The Flirty deck is cheeky but never explicit.
Can we play would you rather online when we are apart?
Yes. Read the cards out loud on a call and answer on the count of three, or press “Copy this card for a chat” to send one card at a time in your messages.
What is the difference between the two modes?
“Do we match?” has both of you answer every card and shows how often you agree. “Guess my answer” has one answer and the other guess, swapping each card, with a point for every right guess.
Is this the same as this or that?
No. This or that is quick either-or picks answered as a list and compared from a link. Would you rather deals one full dilemma at a time, both of you answer it together, and every card has a follow-up question.
Does Lovelle save what I type?
No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to or stored on Lovelle's servers. When you share, your choices travel inside the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to websites. That part is not encrypted, so anyone with the link can read it. Share it only with the person it is meant for.
