Quick answer

To make an anniversary card online, choose a design (two hearts, moon and stars, confetti, botanical, big number or your own photo), add their name and yours, choose which anniversary it is in years or months, and pick a message idea or write your own. Then send it as a link that opens like a real card, save it as an image or print it. The designs and messages are original, it is free and there is no sign-up.

How to make an anniversary card

Choosing the photo design lets you put your own picture on the front. The photo stays on your device: it appears in the image you save and in your print, but a shared link uses the two-hearts design instead, because the photo is never uploaded.

  1. Pick a design. The preview shows the front and the inside of your card side by side.
  2. Add who it is to and who it is from.
  3. Enter which anniversary it is and whether you are counting years or months. The front updates to say, for example, “Happy 3rd anniversary” or “Happy 6 months”.
  4. Choose a message style, tap an idea to use it, then edit it. Press “More ideas” for others.
  5. Press “Create card link” and send it. Your partner opens an envelope, then the card.
  6. Or press “Save image” for a PNG of the front and inside, or “Print” for a paper copy.

What to write in an anniversary card

Search suggestions are full of people asking what to write in an anniversary card for a boyfriend or a husband, and the honest answer is: something only you could write. The message ideas in the tool are a starting point. The best cards take one and add a single real detail.

A simple shape works for almost any card: start with the occasion and their name, add one specific memory from the past year, say what you love about them now, and end with something you are looking forward to together.

  • Be specific. “I love how you hum when you cook” beats “I love everything about you”.
  • Keep it short if writing is not your thing. Two honest sentences are better than a page of borrowed lines.
  • Match their humour. If you joke all the time, a funny card can say more than a serious one.
  • Write it, then read it out loud. If it sounds like you, it is ready.

Example

A three-part message, filled in

  • Occasion: “Happy third anniversary, Sam.”
  • Memory: “I still laugh about the night we got lost looking for that restaurant in Lisbon and ended up eating chips on the harbour wall.”
  • Now and next: “You make ordinary days feel like something. I cannot wait for year four.”

All messages are written by the Lovelle team, not generated by AI. Their name and the anniversary are filled in for you, so “three years” or “18 months” reads naturally in the sentence.

Traditional anniversary themes on the card

When you count in years, the inside of the card shows the traditional theme for that anniversary in small print: paper for the first, cotton for the second, leather for the third, and so on up to gold for the 50th and diamond for the 60th. It is a nice hint if you are pairing the card with a gift. Lists vary by country, so treat it as inspiration rather than a rule.

To find the date of your next anniversary and its theme, use the anniversary calculator. For gift ideas that suit your partner, the gift finder filters by occasion, budget and love language.

Sending an anniversary card from far away

A card link is perfect when you cannot be together on the day: it arrives instantly, opens like a real card and works on any phone. Time it for the moment their day starts, not yours. If you live in different time zones, the time zone overlap calculator shows when that is.

Pair it with something they can hold: a printed copy in a care package, a letter from the love letter generator, or a plan for a date over a call. Our long-distance anniversary ideas have more ways to make the day feel shared.

Press “Print” to print the front and inside of the card on one page. It prints as a flat card: trim around it and write a line by hand on the back if you like. For a folded card, print the saved image on thick paper at half size, or simply print two copies and glue them back to back. A handwritten signature always makes it feel more personal.

Q & A

Frequently asked questions

How do I make an anniversary card online for free?

Pick a design, add both names, choose the anniversary, select or write a message and send the card link, save it as an image or print it. It is free with no sign-up.

Can I add a photo to my anniversary card?

Yes. Choose the photo design and pick a photo from your device. It appears in the saved image and the print. The photo is never uploaded, so shared links use the two-hearts design.

What should I write in an anniversary card for my boyfriend or husband?

Start with the occasion and their name, add one specific memory, say what you love about them now and end with something you look forward to. Use a message idea as a starting point and add a detail only you know.

Can I make a card for a monthly anniversary?

Yes. Choose Months instead of Years and the front says, for example, “Happy 6 months”. Choose No number for a general anniversary card.

How does my partner open the card?

They open the link on any phone or computer, tap the envelope to see the front, then open the card to read your message.

Are the messages written by AI?

No. Every message idea is written by the Lovelle team, then filled in with their name and your anniversary.

Does Lovelle save what I type?

No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to or stored on Lovelle's servers. When you share, your choices travel inside the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to websites. That part is not encrypted, so anyone with the link can read it. Share it only with the person it is meant for.
