Quick answer
To make a relationship timeline, add the moments of your story (first message, first date, the day you made it official, first trip, moving in) with a date for each, plus an icon and a short detail if you like. The timeline sorts itself by date, shows how long passed between each moment and how long your story has lasted so far. Pick a style, then save it as an image, print it, copy it as text or send your partner the link. It is free and needs no sign-up.

How to make a relationship timeline
Not sure where to start? Press “See an example” to load a sample story, then replace it with your own. You can add up to 20 moments.
- Give your timeline a title, such as your two names or “Our story”, and pick a style: blush, lavender or night.
- Tap a quick-add moment, such as First date or Moved in together, or press “Add a moment” to write your own.
- Choose the date for each moment. Moments appear on the timeline as soon as they have a date and a title.
- Pick an icon and add a short detail: where it was, what you ate, a line you still remember.
- Check the timeline on the right. It sorts itself and shows the gap between each moment, like “2 weeks later”.
- Save it as an image, print it, copy it as text, or press “Copy link” to send it to your partner.
What to put on your relationship timeline
There is no right list, but most couples' stories share a few big moments. Start with these and then add the small ones that are only yours: the night you missed the last train, the meal you still argue about, the song that played in the car.

| Moment | Detail to add |
|---|---|
| We met, or first message | Where, or the first thing one of you said |
| First date | The place and what you ordered |
| Made it official | Who asked, and how |
| First “I love you” | Where you were |
| First trip together | The place and one thing that went wrong |
| Met the family | The nerves, the food, the verdict |
| First visit (long distance) | The airport or station, and the hug |
| Moved in or closed the distance | The first meal in the new place |
| Engaged or married | The date, the place, the weather |
How the gaps and the total are worked out
Between each moment, the timeline shows how much time passed. Under two weeks it counts days; under about two months it counts weeks; after that it counts calendar months and years, so a gap from 10 June 2023 to 1 July 2024 reads “1 year later”. Two moments on the same date read “The same day”.
At the top, the total runs from your first moment to today (or to your last moment if it is in the future), in years and months. For an exact count in days, use the days together calculator, and to see what is coming next, the anniversary calculator and the 100-day milestone calculator.
Ways to use your timeline
An anniversary surprise
Send the link on the day, or print it and tuck it into an anniversary card.
A wedding “our story” page
Copy it as text and paste it into your wedding website or programme.
A long-distance memory
Mark every visit with the plane icon. Seeing them all in a row shows how far you have come together.
A slideshow script
Use the moments as the order for a photo slideshow at a party.
A conversation starter
Build it together on a call. You will remember different details of the same day.
A yearly ritual
Add the year's new moments every anniversary and save a fresh image to compare.
Building it together is half the fun. Our questions for long-distance couples include plenty of memory questions that help you fill in the details.
Can I use it for a partner visa relationship timeline?
Search suggestions show many people looking for a relationship timeline template for a partner or spouse visa. This tool can help you draft a clear, dated list of your key moments, and “Copy as text” gives you a plain version you can paste into a document and add to.
It is not legal advice and it is not an official form. Immigration authorities each have their own rules about what to include and what evidence to attach, such as travel records, messages or shared bills. Always follow the official guidance for your country, and consider asking a registered adviser if you are unsure.
Who can see our timeline?
Your timeline is built in your browser and is not saved on Lovelle's servers. When you share, the moments (text only, never photos) travel inside the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to websites. Anyone with the link can read it, so send it only to the people you want to see your story. Moments without a date stay out of the link until you finish them.
Q & A
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a relationship timeline online for free?
Add your moments with a date, an icon and an optional detail. The timeline sorts itself and shows the gaps between moments. Save it as an image, print it or share it as a link. It is free with no sign-up.
What should I put on a relationship timeline?
Start with the big moments: when you met, your first date, making it official, your first trip, meeting the family and moving in. Then add the small moments only the two of you would remember.
How many moments can I add?
Up to 20. They sort themselves by date, so you can add them in any order.
Can I add photos to the timeline?
Not to the timeline itself, so the share link stays private and small. Use the couple photo collage maker for photos, and put them side by side with your printed timeline.
Can I use this as a relationship timeline for a visa application?
You can use it to draft a dated list of your key moments and copy it as text. It is not an official form or legal advice, so always follow your country's immigration guidance on what to include.
Can my partner edit the timeline?
Yes. When they open your link, the same timeline loads with the editor, so they can add moments and send a new link back.
Does Lovelle save what I type?
No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to or stored on Lovelle's servers. When you share, your choices travel inside the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to websites. That part is not encrypted, so anyone with the link can read it. Share it only with the person it is meant for.
